Even the peak season, the prices of rice is increasing locally. The prices of almost all varieties of rice have been increasing over the two weeks.
Rice prices continue to go up as millers have captured in kitchen market, Sky market observers.
The food surplus district of Kishoreganj, which is located in the Haor and Upland regions, the price of rice has suddenly increased abnormally. Rice per kg has increased by Tk. 10 to 15 depending on the type in the retail market. The price of some rice has increased up to Tk. 20 per kg. The price has also increased in the rice markets of the district. There, the price per sack (50 kg) has increased from Tk.200 to 250. This has put the low-income groups sufferings.
Rice traders say, there is no shortage of rice in the market. As the prices of vegetables have come down a bit, the cunning traders have suddenly increased the price of rice. As a result, the price of rice per kilogram has increased by 10 taka in every place and market of the district. If the situation is not controlled at this time, the price of rice will increase further.
However, some traders claim that the cost of rice transportation has increased by almost double. In addition, labor costs have increased. Due to this, the price of rice has increased.
During visits to several kitchen markets in Kishoreganj on Sunday, including ones in kachari Bazar, Bara Bazar , Puranthana and Departmental stores. the price of a 50 kg bag of B-49 was Tk. 3,000 , and it has increased from tk.3,500 to 3,600. In the retail market, this rice is being sold as coarse rice at Tk. 65 per kg. However, a week ago, this rice was sold at a maximum of 56 taka.
The price of a 50 kg sack of BR 29 rice Tk 3200 . Now a 50 kg sack is being sold for tk.3200 to 3600 . It is being sold at Tk.70 per kg in the retail market. It was being sold at tk.60 taka per kg a few days ago.
The popular Tepi Boro rice of the district used to be sold for Tk. 80 per kg. Now it is being sold for Tk. 90 per kg. Popular high-quality Rata Boro has increased by 20 taka per kg. Rata Boro Tk.100 per kg. now sold Tk. 120 per kg. In addition, all types of rice including Swarna, Guri, Kataribhog have increased Tk.10 per kg.
Sajib Dhar, a wholesaler in Kishoreganj ‘s Bara Bazar said, millers have been raising prices every week since November last year. He also said millers are now supplying Guti swarna, a coarse variety of Aman season, at Tk.53-54 a kg, which was Tk.46-47 a kg in corresponding period of last year
CAB in Kishoreganj, President, Alam Sarowar Tito said that the dishonest millers had captured the market and the government could hardly do anything.
