Sr. Staff Reporter, Kishoreganj :

To reduce traffic congestion in Kishoreganj town and facilitate smooth travel to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Medical College Hospital (SSNIMCH) and the haor area, development work on both sides of the road, including the construction of an eight-kilometer bypass road at a cost of about tk. 731.31 Crore, began in October 2019. But the entire development work has become uncertain as the project period expired before the main work could begin.
Not only there a risk of a huge loss of money, but the people of Kishoreganj town are also becoming increasingly frustrated with the increasing traffic congestion every day.
To travel to different upazilas located in the haor region, there is no alternative to crossing the road through the district town. Similarly, people coming from different upazilas also have to travel through the city to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Medical College Hospital (SSNIMCH). As a result, terrible traffic jams are created on the already narrow and overloaded roads of the district town. Which becomes even more fragile with the pressure of additional vehicles during the tourist season in the haor.
The people of the district headquarters have long been angry about this. The residents of the district town are angry that there is no bypass.
CAB in Kishoreganj, President , Alam Sarowar Tito , expressed his anger and said that due to traffic jams in the town, it is not possible to reach the destination quickly for daily movement or emergency needs. Due to traffic jams, even walking properly is not possible due to the fear of accidents. Businessmen also suffering a lot due to traffic jam. Cultural activist Ziaur Rahman said, due to traffic jams, it is not possible to reach Shaheed Syed Nazrul Medical College Hospital with critical patients.
This is worsening the patient’s condition. If the bypass road were built, the traffic jams in town would have reduced to some extent. According to the information provided by Road and Highways Department (RHD) Office, a project at a cost of Tk 731.31 crore was approved by the ECNEC in November 2019 to ease traffic congestion in the district town and facilitate travel to the haor area and the Medical College Hospital.
