Bashundhara Kings will play in the final phase of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge League.
Earlier, the champions of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football, the most prestigious football meet of Bangladesh, used to play the play-off stage of the AFC Challenge League.
But this year, Bashundhara Kings will directly play in the final phase of the AFC Challenge League, the annual continental club football competition, which is organised by Asian Football Confederation (AFC), according to a press release issued by AFC on Wednesday.
As Bashundhara Kings will directly play in the final phase of the AFC Challenge League, Bashundhara Kings will get a chance to play a good number of international matches. Earlier, Bashundhara Kings had to compete in the play-off stage of that football meet. As the play-off stage will be held knock-out basis, so, Bashundhara Kings had a risk to knock out of the meet.
As there is no limitation of the clubs of the countries, the circle of the clubs’ play-off phase have been reduced. So, a good number of clubs will directly play in AFC Challenge League and AFC Champions League. Mohun Bagan Super Giant of India will directly play in the AFC Challenge League. But East Bengal Club will compete in the play-off stage to move into the final phase of the AFC Challenge League.
Bashundhara Kings played in the AFC Cup since 2019. They played four times in the AFC Cup. But they could not cross the group phase. However, reigning champions of the BPL Football Bashundhara Kings, who retained their supremacy in the football competitions of Bangladesh, it is a matter what kind of performance Bashundhara Kings can show in the new format of AFC Challenge League.
