Khulna University Day was celebrated with colorful arrangements and great enthusiasm on Tuesday.
This year, Khulna University completed 34 years of educational activities and entered its 35th year.
On the occasion of the day, a colorful procession was taken out from the main gate of the university ‘Shahid Mir Mughd Toran’ at 10 am. The procession went around the second gate and ended at the Indomitable Bangla Chattar.
The procession was led by the first Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, the current Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Nurunnabi and various school deans, registrars (acting), heads of discipline, student affairs directors, provosts, divisional directors, teachers, students, officers and employees participated.

Rezaul Haque, senior journalists Sheikh Didarul Alam, Abu Tayyab Munshi, Ehteshamul Haque Shaon, SM Habib, President of Greater Khulna Unnayan Sangram Coordination Committee Sheikh Ashrafuzzaman, Secretary General Adv. Sheikh Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, Convener of Khulna Civil Society Adv. Sheikh Shahnawaz Ali, Member Secretary Mahendra Nath Sen, Member Secretary of Khulna Nagorik Samaj Adv. Babul Howlader, President of Greater Amara Khulnabasi Dr. Sheikh Nasir Uddin and General Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Khokon and other prominent personalities attended in the procession.
After the procession, the day’s program was officially inaugurated by releasing pigeons, balloons and festoons, a symbol of peace.
Then at 11 am, a discussion meeting was held at the Journalist Liaquat Ali Auditorium on the occasion of Khulna University Day.
The first Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Rahman, spoke as the chief guest in the meeting.
The discussion meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim, was attended by the Vice-Chancellor of Khulna Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Ahsan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Khulna University, Professor Dr. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan, Treasurer Professor Dr. Md. Nurunnabi, Treasurer of Khulna Agricultural University, Professor Dr. Shamim Ahmed Kamal Uddin Khan.
The speakers at the meeting said that Khulna University is the fruit of the movement and struggle of the people of the south-western region.
Since its inception, politicians, civil society, professionals and journalists have played an important role in overcoming the crisis and developing the university in various fields. On this joyful day, I pay tribute to all of them.
The speakers also said that the graduates of Khulna University are leaving their mark of success in the country and abroad, which is the biggest achievement.
After the current administration took charge, various steps have been taken to improve the quality of education and research at the university.
Among them, the first ‘Collaborative Research Grant Program’ and ‘Teaching Assistantship’ at the university level are particularly noteworthy.
The speakers also mentioned that more timely initiatives will be taken to develop the university as an impactful higher education institution in the future.
The closing speech of the discussion meeting was delivered by the convener of the day celebration committee and Dean (Acting) of the School of Education, Professor Dr. Md. Imdadul Haque.
The welcome speech was delivered by the member-secretary of the day celebration committee and Director of Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Md. Nazmus Sadat.
The cover of the souvenir published on the occasion of University Day was unveiled at the event. At the same event, honors were given to students and organizations who achieved achievements last year.
In addition, honors were given to the vice-chancellors, pro-vice-chancellors and treasurers of various public universities from among the teachers of Khulna University by the university. Later, a cake was cut on the occasion of the day.
The achievements of the departments/disciplines last year and the plans for the next year were presented through a display board at the Indomitable Bangla Plaza.
In addition, after Zuhr, a doa mahfil was held at the university’s central jame mosque and prayers were held in the temple. In the evening, a cultural program was organized on the open stage.
On the occasion of the day, the main gate of the campus, roads, various buildings, halls and other establishments were decorated with beautiful lighting.
