Religious Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain has urged everyone to refrain from actions that could heighten tensions ahead of the upcoming national election.

Speaking at the International Qur’an Recitation Conference at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Friday, Khalid said the government would avoid any move that might raise doubts about the election process or hinder a smooth transition of power.

“We will proceed with caution and act responsibly,” he said.
He stressed that no one would be permitted to create chaos by misusing religious teachings, noting that only qualified scholars are authorised to interpret religious issues. “We will not tolerate any distortion or misrepresentation of Islam,” he added.

Khalid highlighted Bangladesh’s strong global standing in Qur’an recitation, crediting the Islamic Foundation’s strict and transparent selection process for helping build this reputation. He expressed gratitude to the institution and reaffirmed his ommitment to improving facilities for hafiz, qari, imams and muezzins.

He further reiterated that concepts like Islam, Allah, the Qur’an, Hadith, the afterlife and Shariah must be explained only by individuals with proper knowledge and scholarly training. Those without such expertise risk spreading confusion or provoking unrest, he warned.

Emphasising the rule of law, Khalid stated that no one is above the legal framework. “We will uphold the law. No one has the right to take justice into their own hands. The state has laws, courts and a government to ensure justice,” he said, urging all to respect the legal system.
