Former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia visited Evercare Hospital in the capital on Thursday evening for a routine health examination at.

According to the BNP media cell, the ailing leader was leave her Gulshan residence around 7:30 pm for the hospital located in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area.

Party sources have said that doctors have been closely monitoring Begum Zia’s health condition for the past several weeks. Although she has been receiving treatment at her residence under the supervision of a medical team, her physicians recently recommended a detailed check-up at the hospital to conduct specialized tests and review her ongoing treatment plan.

The 79-year-old three-time prime minister has long been suffering from multiple health complications, including liver cirrhosis, arthritis, diabetes, and kidney-related ailments. Her condition drew national attention in late 2021 when she was admitted to Evercare Hospital for an extended period, during which her medical board repeatedly urged the government to allow her advanced treatment abroad. Despite appeals from her family, party, and international human rights bodies, authorities allowed her to remain under conditional release but denied permission to travel overseas.

In recent months, Begum Zia has been mostly confined to her Gulshan residence due to her fragile health, limiting her public appearances. BNP leaders often highlight her deteriorating condition as a reflection of what they describe as the government’s indifference toward the opposition leader’s welfare.

Today’s scheduled hospital visit comes against the backdrop of renewed political activities centering on the upcoming national election. Party insiders said that while Khaleda Zia remains out of active politics due to health restrictions, her presence continues to serve as a symbolic source of inspiration for BNP supporters.
