BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday urged citizens, along with party leaders and activists, to unite with a firm commitment to restore democracy in Bangladesh.
Speaking virtually at a discussion marking the 44th martyrdom anniversary of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda said, “Very soon, democracy will return to Bangladesh. Let that be our collective pledge on this significant day. I urge everyone to move forward in a disciplined and united manner.”
The event, organized at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), highlighted Ziaur Rahman’s sacrifice for democracy and national sovereignty. Khaleda noted that the democratic path he initiated continues to face challenges.
She emphasized that the true way to honor Shaheed Zia is by realizing his vision—solving national issues through democratic governance and development.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, also speaking virtually, was the chief discussant. The event was presided over by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Other speakers included BNP standing committee members Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Salahuddin Ahmed, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, educationist Prof. Mahbub Ullah, and Jahangirnagar University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan. BNP Publicity Secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku moderated the event.
