Dr. A. Z. M. Zahid Hasan, a Member of the BNP Standing Committee, said that BNP Chairperson Begum Zia has not retired from politics, and the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman is always discussing political matters with her.
He made these remarks at a press conference in Khaleda Zia’s
Gulshan residence Firoza, after visiting the mausoleum of the late President Ziaur Rahman on Wednesday night.
Dr. Zahid said that Tarique Rahman is performing his responsibilities under the guidance and advice of Begum Khaleda Zia.
Dr. Zahid also mentioned that, as the chairperson’s health has slightly improved compared to before, she personally wished to visit the mausoleum of the party founder, the late President Ziaur Rahman.
Accordingly, she visited the mausoleum with her family and the party’s Secretary-General, reciting the Quran and performing prayers.
On that day, Begum Zia’s motorcade reached the mausoleum of the late President Ziaur Rahman in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar around 11 p.m. There, while seated in the car, the former Prime Minister offered Fatiha, prayers, and supplications for the forgiveness of the departed soul of the late President Ziaur Rahman.
During the visit, Begum Khaleda Zia was accompanied by the spouses of her younger brothers-the late Major Saeed Iskander and engineer Shamim Iskander-as well as other family members.
