BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been moved to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) from her cabin at Evercare Hospital for closer monitoring.
BNP media cell member Sayrul Kabir Khan confirmed the development on Thursday, saying she is being treated under the supervision of a medical board comprising both local and foreign specialists.
He said he visited the hospital around 1 pm and spoke with her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member, Dr AZM Zahid Hossain.
Dr Hossain stated that Khaleda Zia remains under intensive observation in the CCU, with the medical board closely tracking her condition.
Meanwhile, BNP has called for special prayers across all mosques in the country after Jumma prayers on Friday, seeking the swift recovery of the party chairperson and former prime minister.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan office.
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital on 23 November after developing a chest infection that affected both her heart and lungs.
She has long been suffering from multiple chronic health complications, including cardiac issues, liver and kidney ailments, diabetes, lung disease, arthritis, and eye-related problems.
She also has a permanent pacemaker and previously underwent stent placement for heart treatment.
According to Professor Dr FM Siddiqui, a member of the medical board, several of her complications escalated simultaneously on Sunday (23 November).
