Ailing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is likely to visit the UK early in the December for receiving better medical treatment.
As part of the plan, the BNP chief provided her biometric fingerprints to the US Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday to complete her visa application formalities.
Contacted, Khaleda Zia’s personal physician Professor Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain told The New Nation on Wednesday, “In a bid to get advanced medical treatment, madam (Khaleda Zia) is under procedure to go abroad soon. The processes are going smoothly. She may need to travel to the US for taking better treatment.”
As its part, she visited the US Embassy on Wednesday to provide her biometric fingerprints, Dr. Zahid Hossain added.
During the trip to the US embassy, Professor Dr Zahid Hossain, BNP Organising Secretary Shama Obed, Chairperson’s Private Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, and her personal physician Mohammad Mamun accompanied the BNP chairperson.
The BNP chief arrived at the embassy around 2:20 pm. Senior officials of the US Embassy greeted Begum Khaleda Zia upon her arrival.
Party sources said the former Prime Minister will go to the UK first for medical treatment.
Later, she may travel to the USA or Germany for advanced treatment.
Khaleda Zia, has been suffering from a range of serious health complexities, including liver cirrhosis, and problems with her heart, lungs, kidneys, eyes and high blood pressures.
She has undergone multiple treatments at Evercare Hospital in the capital, under the supervision of a medical board chaired by Professor Shahabuddin Talukder for long.
The BNP has made all the necessary arrangements to send her abroad for specialised treatment at state-of-the-art medical facilities.
