Sheikh Arif Bulbon:
Jibanananda Das’s ‘Banalata Sen’ has long
been a metaphor for the beloved in the
hearts of lovers in Bengalis.
Masud Hasan Ujjal is making a film about this mysterious character with government funding. The film is titled ‘Banalata Sen’.
It was previously known that Khairul Basar would be acting in it. However, neither the director nor the actor said anything about which role he would be playing.
Now it has been revealed that Khairul Basar will be playing Jibanananda Das on screen.
Regarding talking about playing the role of Jibanananda Das, Khairul Basar told this correspondent, “Working with Jibanananda Das in a film is undoubtedly a matter of fortune for me. He is my favourite poet. His poems create a sense of wonder. Becoming Jibanananda Das on screen was very challenging. The whole process was complicated for me. I started preparing three months before the shooting started. We sat together, read scripts, and rehearsed. I had learned from the director how he wanted the character of Jibanananda Das to look on screen. I tried to prepare myself accordingly. Even so, there are some challenges during shooting. I tried to get them down with everyone’s help. We all think this is going to be a surprising movie for the audience.”
Director Masud Hasan Ujjal said, “Working with Jibanananda Das is a lot of responsibility.
Researching, preparing, finding the right actor – the whole process was very difficult. It was a matter of getting everyone ready for the movie. We rehearsed for days. A big part of this movie was the production design. These are not available in our country. It takes a long time to prepare the film the way I want it to look on screen. The film is ready for release now. Although I thought about releasing him last year, considering the overall situation in the country, it didn’t happen. If all goes well, the release will be announced soon.”
The movie ‘Banalata Sen’ is also starring Masuma Rahman Nabila, Sohel Mondal, Naziba Basher, Priyontee Urbee, Rupanty Akid, Sharif Siraj, Sumaiya Khushi, among others.
Meanwhile, Khairul Basar will soon act in Tanvir Mokammel’s new movie.
A film of the same title is being made based on the poetry book ‘Sojan Badiyar Ghat’ by ‘Polli Kobi’ Jasimuddin.
Two communities -Muslims and Hindus – live in the village of Shimultali. Even though their religions are different, they have a brotherly relationship.
The whole village is like a family. In this village, there are two teenagers from different religions – Sojan and Duli. They have been each other’s playmates, their own friends, since childhood. Once upon a time, there was a conflict in the village, the tragic consequences of which fell on Sojan and Duli.
Khairul Basar will play the role of Sojan in the movie.
While talking about the movie, Khairul Basar told this correspondent, “There has been no official announcement about the movie from the director yet. So, not much can be said about this movie. Preparations were underway to begin shooting, but now the plan is to start by the end of the year. Rehearsals are scheduled to begin in October.”
