Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday that the government is making every effort to maintain stability in Khagrachhari, and the situation has now reached a satisfactory level.
“We are mobilizing our maximum efforts so that no one can create unrest in Khagrachhari,” he said.
He made these remarks while inaugurating the construction of administrative-cum-barrack buildings for five police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at the Old Ramna Thana Complex in the capital.
The CHT Adviser recently held meetings with local leaders and law enforcement agencies to ensure lasting stability in Khagrachhari.
Three people were killed and several others, including police and military personnel, were injured during the recent unrest in the area.
When asked about allegations of financial and arms support from a neighboring country to fuel the violence, the Home Adviser said he would not name any country. However, he confirmed that attempts are being made by allies of the ousted fascist regime to destabilize Khagrachhari.
He added that this group is also trying to incite chaos across the country so that the ongoing Durga Puja- which began on Sunday – cannot be observed in a festive, peaceful, and safe manner.
The Home Adviser urged everyone to cooperate in restoring full normalcy in Khagrachhari and in ensuring peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja.
Turning to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, he noted that the force has 50 police stations, half of which are still operating from rented premises. “We are working to relocate all police stations into their own permanent buildings,” he added.
