Khagrachhari’s Jumma student protest has been postponed until October 5 due to administration assurances and Durga Puja on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, The Khagrachhari district administration has constituted a five-member body to investigate the recent incident in Guimara upazila.
Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandker disclosed the matter on Tuesday while addressing journalists after a relief distribution programme in the affected upazila.
He said the administration team rushed to the spot immediately after the incident and returned again today with relief materials to stand by the victims. The injured have already been shifted to Chattogram for better treatment, while steps are being taken to rehabilitate the families of those killed, he added.
“The committee has been formed to ensure a transparent and impartial investigation,” the deputy commissioner said.
He further mentioned that meetings were held with the protesters and efforts are underway to reach a peaceful settlement through dialogue. Out of the eight demands placed by the protesters, work has already begun on seven, he informed.
On the demand for withdrawing Section 144, the DC said: “We are also considering this. However, the blockade remains the biggest obstacle. Once it is lifted, we will also remove the restriction.”
