Keep export-import uninterrupted, urges BGMEA

First Vice President of BGMEA Syed Nazrul Islam has called to work unitedly to keep the import and export activities of the ready-made garment industry uninterrupted. On Wednesday (July 24), he made this call at the discussion meeting of Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association and Chittagong Customs Agents Association with BGMEA in the port city.
BGMEA Vice President Rakibul Alam Chowdhury, Director M Ehsanul Haque, Mohammad Musa, Amjad Hossain Chowdhury, Mostafa Sarwar Riyad, Rakib Al Nasser, Former Director AM Shafiul Karim (Khokon), Chittagong Customs Agents officials were present in the meeting held at the conference room of Chittagong Regional Office of BGMEA. Association President AKM Akhtar Hossain, General Secretary Kazi Mahmud Imam Bilu, Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association Senior Vice President Amiya Sarkar Burman and Vice President Khairul Alam Sujan and others.
Addressing the stakeholders, Syed Nazrul Islam said that the export-oriented garment industry is the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy.
This industry has always supported government in the past as an important partner in the development of this industry. Today this industry has fallen into a dire state and your cooperation is urgently needed to get out of it. As you know, the clothing industry is the first to be affected in any disaster situation of the country as it is dependent on foreign buyers. In the recent unstable situation, this industrial sector has suffered at the rate of more than 1600 crore taka daily.
In order to overcome this loss and sustain the garment industry in the competitive global market, he called on Chittagong Port, Customs, related government and private departments along with Bangladesh Shipping Agents Association and Chittagong Customs Agents Association to work together through relentless efforts.
He expressed hope that the garment industry of the country will move forward again with the sincere cooperation of all parties as in the past.
Rakibul Alam Chowdhury said that the ready-made garment industry is a completely time-bound industry. If the foreign buyer fails to export within the specified lead time, the concerned industry faces severe financial losses.
He expressed great regret over the recent untoward incident and said that such incident is a bad sign for the garment industry. This has caused untold damage to the industry. We have to work unitedly to sustain this industry for the greater interest of the national economy in the future.
In the meeting, the leaders of Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association and Chittagong Customs Agents Association said that they will cooperate with theand the export-oriented garment industry.
