High Court Division Justice Shahed Nuruddin – who is currently being investigated by the Supreme Judicial Council – has submitted his resignation letter to President Md Shahabuddin.

The Supreme Court’s administration department announced this information in a statement on Thursday.

On October 16, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed placed 12 High Court judges, including Nuruddin, on leave following allegations that they had collaborated with the corruption and authoritarian Sheikh Hasina’s government. These judges were barred from presiding over court proceedings.

The 12 judges removed from the bench include Justice Naima Haider, Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif, Justice Ashish Ranjan Das, Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar, Justice SM Moniruzzaman, Ataur Rahman Khan, Justice Shahed Nuruddin, Justice Md Akhtaruzzaman, Justice Md Aminul Islam, Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman, Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon, and Justice Khizir Hayat.

Earlier, leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged a demonstration surrounding the Supreme Court, demanding the resignation of judges accused of political bias and corruption. They issued an ultimatum for their resignation, leading to the decision to send the 12 judges on leave over allegations of corruption and irregularities.
