‘Justice of July killing to be ensured’
Staff Reporter :
Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul has said, “The trial of the July massacre will be completed during the tenure of the interim government. The judicial process is progressing rapidly.
Efforts are underway to submit all charge sheets related to the events of July 2024 by August 5. The entire trial of the July massacre will be concluded under the interim government.”
He made the remarks on Monday while inaugurating a memorial monument in Hajiganj, Sadar Upazila of Narayanganj, dedicated to the 56 martyrs from the district who were killed during the July uprising.
The first-ever memorial to the July martyrs in the country has been established in Narayanganj.
Among others present at the inauguration were Adviser to the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan, Adviser to the Ministry of Education Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah, Superintendent of Police Pratyush Kumar Majumder, and family members of the martyrs.
Calling on all to remain united like in July, Professor Asif Nazrul said, “There are many local incidents of killings and extortion. If you stay united like in July, you will be able to resist the extortionists. The administration will give you full support.”
Dr. Asif Nazrul stated, “People were brutally murdered, their bodies mutilated – where is the justice for that? I want to affirm strongly that justice is moving forward.
These murders will be prosecuted during our administration.”
He added, “Some have said that fascist forces have filed false cases and are preventing people from entering certain areas. I request the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police to ensure maximum security for them. We won in July because we became like a family. We must preserve that unity.”
Asif Nazrul further said, “For the past fifteen years, the country endured fascist rule. The people have now overthrown that fascist regime. Your sacrifices here – 22 martyrs and over 350 injured – will not be forgotten.”
He continued, “There has been significant progress in investigating the cases. I have requested the authorities to try and submit charge sheets before August 5. They have assured me that they will be able to submit charge sheets in many of the cases.”
Speakers at the event also noted that July memorials are being built across the country to honor the martyrs and educate the younger generation about their sacrifices. They added that the Ganabhaban has been transformed into a museum against fascism and that the graves of the martyrs have also been preserved.
