The Bangladesh National Lawyers Association (BNLA) has called for the depoliticization of justice appointments and bar associations to ensure fair justice for all citizens. This demand was made during a recent executive committee meeting held at the Supreme Court’s Bar Building.
Presiding over the meeting, BNLA President Advocate Shah Md. Khosruzzaman emphasized the need to remove political influence from the judicial appointment process and bar associations. The event was moderated by BNLA Secretary General Md. Sagir Anwar.
Senior lawyers including Sheikh Atiyar Rahman, Suraiya Begum, Mumtaz Uddin, Sardar Khalilur Rahman, Shaheed Ali Jinnah, Nasir Uddin Samrat, Md. Saiful Alam, and Abdus Sabur Dewan also addressed the gathering. They urged the government to create an environment where all constitutional institutions can function independently and without political pressure.
The meeting condemned the recent stabbing incident involving Barrister Asraf by another advocate within the Supreme Court premises. The BNLA members demanded a thorough investigation and fair justice regarding the incident.
In addition, the meeting resolved to organize a national convention, inviting members from all bar councils across the country. An 11-member convening committee was formed to oversee the event, with Sheikh Atiyar Rahman appointed as the convener.
