Mahmudul Hasan Mamun alias Jamai Mamun, in the capital’s Jurain area became rich even though he was member of a poor family.
Mamun is now a notorious name in Jurain and adjacent areas as huge allegations found against him over grabbing people’s house and lands. Residents of the areas complained against him over land and house grabbing and extortion.
He involved in such illegal activities taking shelter under the political umbrella of the previous government. Allegedly, his father-in-law Noor Hossain, former councilor of Ward -53 of Dhaka South City Corporation, was a big supporter of Mamun’s misdeeds.
Though the government has fallen, but Mamun is still out of touch which made the local people astonished.
Locals alleged that Mamun tried to forcibly buy a house adjacent to East Jurain sweet shop by showing political power. Later, the owner of the house, Khairun Akhter, filed a GD at the Kadomtoli police station, alleging intimidation and threats.
Not only that, another woman named Syeda Bushra Tabassum, who filed another GD against him at the same police station accusing Mamun attacked on them over a wall dispute.
Besides, on August 18, another woman named Marufa Akhter lodged a GD at Kadomtoli police station on the charge of intimidation and threats. Not only that, during the anti-quota movement on July 19, a man named Masood was shot dead in the area.
Later, after the formation of the interim government, Hena Begum, the victim’s wife, filed a case at the Kadomtali police station on September 4 in which Mamun alias Jamai Mamun was made the accused.
Another victim named Golam Mostafa complained that his relative Selima Kashem is the owner of two and a half katha land in East Jurain. During the construction of the house at that place, Mamun threatened to kill Selima and others and claimed that the house was his. In this incident, he filed a case on behalf of the victim Selima.
After that, the court ordered the construction of the house by maintaining peace and order, but Mamun did not comply with this order and created obstacles in various ways. Not only that, it is alleged that Mamun formed a armed group with Delwar and Arif of Boubazar area under Kadomtoli police station and were carrying out various criminal activities including drug peddling, extortion, gambling, terrorism, robbery, murder and kidnapping in the area. However, no one dared to open their mouths as he took shelter under Awami League.
Since the previous government has fallen. Under the interim government, the country is moving towards good governance. Now the demand of the local people to bring Mamun under the law and prosecuted as an ally of the government. In this regard, an attempt was made to contact the accused Mamun’s mobile phone, but it was found to be switched off. Kadomtoli Police Station Inspector Investigation Safayet Hossain said the OC is on leave. He, however, said complaints are being investigated and legal action will be taken. In this case no one has the opportunity to get discount.
