An art competition marking the first anniversary of the July Uprising 2024 was held on Wednesday at the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), drawing participation from around 200 students of different schools.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam attended as chief guest and visited the participants’ artworks. He praised the children’s creative depictions of the uprising, noting, “The spirit of July has been beautifully portrayed through their brushes. Their participation encourages us to increase the number of prizes.” Winners will be formally awarded on August 5 at the university’s “Gahi Samyer Gaan” stage during a commemorative program.
The competition featured four categories, Playgroup to Grade 2: “Bangladesh Comes First”, Grades 3–5: “The July Revolution Through the Eyes of Children”, Grades 6–8: “Looking Back at July 36”, Grades 9–10: “From Plains to Hills, Freedom for All”
The event was organized on the ground floor of the university’s new Faculty of Arts building. Students from Nazrul University School and several nearby institutions joined the competition.
Also present were Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman; Professor Dr. Md. Habib-ul-Maula (Maula Prince), Head of the Department of Bangla Language and Literature; Assistant Professor Md. Oli Ullah of the Department of Public Administration and Secretary of the July Uprising Celebration Committee; Assistant Professors Didarul Hossain Limon and Rashedur Rahman of the Department of Fine Arts; along with teachers, officials, and staff members.
The event showcased the creativity and patriotism of the young generation while commemorating the historic July Uprising.
