Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that those who opposed the July Movement and its graffiti will never be able to return. The sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the July Movement will never go in vain.

He made these remarks while speaking to journalists at around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday after inaugurating the graffiti titled “July Bravery” and “July Sacrifice” on the Mawa side of Munshiganj.

The Home Affairs Adviser said, “There is no doubt that this graffiti will remain intact. Even if an elected government comes in the future, there is no reason for it to be erased.”

He paid deep respect to the martyrs of the Liberation War and those who sacrificed their lives in the July Mass Uprising. At the same time, he prayed for the salvation of the martyrs’ souls, expressed condolences to their families, and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

The Home Affairs Adviser further said that the graffiti, based on history, has been painted on both ends of the Padma Bridge to mark the July Mass Uprising and Youth Festival 2025.

“This is not just an inaugural ceremony; rather, it is a unique initiative to bring history closer to the new generation. The graffiti titled ‘July Bravery’ and ‘July Sacrifice’ will remind us of independence and sacrifice.”

He added, “This generation and the generations to come must know that the July Mass Uprising was not just a movement; it was a struggle to stand against injustice and to establish truth and justice. This movement gave the nation a new direction. I believe such initiatives will inspire people with the spirit of truth, justice, freedom, and democracy.”

Among those present at the event were Railway Ministry Secretary Fahmidul Islam, Dhaka Range DIG Rezaul Karim Mallik, Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatema Tuz Zannat, Munshiganj Superintendent of Police Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Shariatpur Deputy Commissioner Tahsina Begum, and others.

The graffiti painted on the Mawa side of Munshiganj depicts the sacrifices of the martyrs of the July Movement. It features the heroic rickshaw-puller Mohammad Sujan, the bravery of female students who took part in the movement, Rangpur martyr Abu Sayeed, and slain Golam Nafiz.
