The interim government will formally unveil the long-awaited “July Declaration” on 5 August at 5:00 PM, during a national event commemorating the first anniversary of the historic July 2024 mass uprising. The landmark ceremony will take place at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka and is being billed as a pivotal moment in the nation’s democratic journey.
The announcement was made via the verified Facebook page of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Sunday. The declaration will serve as the focal point of a day-long commemorative programme titled “36 July Celebration”, honouring the unity, sacrifice, and resilience that led to the ousting of the previous Awami League administration.
Organised by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat and coordinated by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, the celebration is open to all citizens. It aims to pay tribute to those who contributed to what is being widely seen as a
transformative moment in the country’s political history.
A post by the Chief Adviser emphasised the emotional and historical significance of the day, describing it as a time when the entire nation united, “through the blood of many martyrs and the dedication of countless fighters,” to chart a new course for Bangladesh.
The festivities will begin at 11:00 AM with a sequence of musical and cultural performances. The programme opens with “Tong er Gaan,” followed by acts from Saimum Shilpigoshthi at 11:20 AM and Kolorob Shilpigoshthi at 11:40 AM. Solo artists Nahid and Tashfee will perform ahead of a break for Duhr prayer at 1:00 PM.
The afternoon segment continues with a range of musical performances, starting at 1:10 PM with Chittagong Hip-Hop Hood, followed by Sezan at 1:30 PM, and the band Shunno at 2:00 PM. A special segment marking the “Fascist’s Flight” is scheduled for 2:25 PM, followed by Shayan at 2:40 PM, and a joint performance by Ethun Babu and Moushumi at 3:00 PM. Rock bands Souls and Warfaze will perform at 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM respectively, before a break for Asr prayer at 4:45 PM.
The event’s climax will occur at 5:00 PM with the official reading of the July Declaration-a historic document expected to outline the nation’s future political direction and governance reforms. The declaration is widely seen as a cornerstone in Bangladesh’s ongoing political transformation.
Post-declaration, musical performances will resume, featuring acts from the Basic Guitar Learning School, F Minor, and Parsha, leading up to Maghrib prayer at 6:50 PM.
Evening performances will feature singer Elita Karim at 7:00 PM, followed by a specially choreographed drone drama titled “Do You Miss Me?” from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
The day’s events will conclude with a concert by the iconic rock band Artcell at 8:00 PM, providing a rousing finale to what organisers are describing as a “people’s celebration of democracy and national renewal.”
