National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam on Friday reaffirmed his party’s commitment to realizing the July Charter and the July Declaration by August 5, as part of its ongoing campaign for justice, systemic reform, and a new constitution.

“NCP is resolutely advancing with demands for accountability over the July-August atrocities, comprehensive reforms, and the adoption of a new constitution,” Nahid said while addressing a rally at Altaf Uddin Square in Sunamganj town this afternoon. “We are witnessing a shift-several political parties are moving away from their traditional stances and embracing the reformist cause. NCP was founded to heal a broken nation.”

The rally was part of the NCP’s ongoing nationwide street march and was chaired by Sunamganj district NCP Convener Dewan Sajaur Raja Sumon, with District Joint Convener Anik Roy moderating the proceedings.

Nahid paid homage to the people of Sunamganj for their legacy of resistance, stating: “This land gave us three martyrs in the July uprising-Ayatullah, Hridoy, and Sohag. Sunamganj also shed blood protesting Delhi’s hegemony during Narendra Modi’s 2021 visit. We carry an unpayable debt to this district.”

NCP Southern Region Chief Coordinator Hasnat Abdullah cautioned against what he called the re-emergence of fascist forces, alleging that they are exploiting the recent Milestone jet crash for political gain.

“In defense of democracy and Bangladesh’s future, all anti-fascist parties must unite,” Abdullah said. “We must push forward with reform proposals and prepare for the next elections to ensure a democratic transition.”

He also took aim at the ideological revival of Mujibism, declaring, “Attempts are underway to restore Mujibism through deceptive means. But it will not return. A broad-based socio-cultural resistance must be built to confront it.”

Earlier in the day, NCP leaders met with families of those killed or injured during the July uprising. After Friday prayers, the party launched a mass procession from the central mosque, which wound through the town’s main roads under Nahid Islam’s leadership.

The rally drew participation from several top NCP figures, including Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain; Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah; Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam; Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari; Senior Joint Member Secretaries Dr. Tasnim Zara and Samantha Sharmin; and Joint Convener Ehteshamul Haque.
Youth front leaders from Jubo Shakti were also present, including Abu Saleh Nasim, Ishaq Amini, Shahidul Islam, Emonoddoza, and Shakib.
