An 18-year-old son of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Abdur Rahman was stabbed to death by a young man at their Dabtola residence on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The judge’s wife, Tasmin Nahar Lucy, sustained severe injuries in the attack and is currently in critical condition.

The deceased, Tausif Rahman Sumon, was a ninth-grade student.
Meanwhile, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has strongly denounced the heinous attack at the residence of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman, in which the judge’s son, Taosif Rahman (Suman), was killed and his wife, Tasmin Nahar, critically injured.

In response to the incident, Dr Nazrul directed law enforcement authorities to identify and apprehend all those responsible and to conduct a swift and comprehensive investigation, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.

Acting on the adviser’s instruction, the relevant agencies have already initiated prompt measures.

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian said the assailant, identified as Limon Mia, forcibly entered the judge’s residence around 3:30 pm and launched a knife attack on the family members, killing Tausif on the spot and leaving his mother grievously wounded.

Tasmin Nahar was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where she is now undergoing treatment, confirmed Shankar Kumar Biswas, spokesperson for the hospital. The attacker, Limon Mia, was also admitted to the same hospital with injuries.

“An investigation team is currently working at the scene. The motive behind the attack is still unclear. However, the assailant was known to the family and had occasionally approached them to borrow money,” said RMP Commissioner Abu Sufian.

Police sources added that the judge’s wife had previously filed a general diary (GD) against Limon Mia at Jalalabad Police Station in Sylhet.

A resident of the building, Abdul Latif, who lives on the third floor, said his domestic helper also works at the judge’s residence.

“She informed us about the attack. We rushed to the fifth floor and found Tausif and Limon lying injured on the floor, while the judge’s wife was also severely hurt nearby. They were all immediately taken to the hospital,” he said.

Judge Abdur Rahman, originally from Jamalpur district, had been living with his family in the rented Dabtola house following his official posting in Rajshahi.
