The Ministry of Law has temporarily suspended Judge Debanshu Kumar Sarkar, currently attached to the Ministry of Law, from his position as former Senior Judicial Magistrate at Court-2 of Rangpur due to dowry and abuse allegations made by his wife.
A notification regarding his suspension was issued by the Law and Justice Department of the Ministry of Law on Thursday, June 27, by order of the President.
On April 22, 2022, Dr. Hridita Sarkar filed a case with the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal, alleging physical abuse by her husband, Debanshu Kumar Sarkar, for not paying a dowry of 30 lakh taka. The case also involved three other individuals.
On February 8, 2023, Mustafa Kamal, the judge of Rangpur Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal-1, issued an arrest warrant for Debanshu Kumar Sarkar and the other accused. Subsequently, on February 12, 2023, Debanshu Sarkar and his father secured bail from the High Court.
