JU students demand apology from Indian movie makers for distortion of liberation war history

The students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) on Wednesday vowed the Indian government to seeking pardon to Bangladesh and punish the filmmakers of ‘Gunday’ film for distorting the history of Bangladesh’s Liberation War in that film.
The students made this vow in a human chain in front of the Amar Ekushey premises in protest of the film organized by ‘Jaheer Raihan Cholochittro Sangsad’- a film organization of JU.
During the human chain, the participants displayed anti-Indian placard, festoons, banner writing ‘Stop Gunday, avoid Indian Goods, seek pardon and punish the filmmakers, etc.
Speakers at the human chain said, some 30 lakh martyrs and the entire Bengali nation have been dishonoured by this distortion of history. It is being considered as Indian aggression on the Bengali culture.
Sadia Surovi- a student of the Department of Journalism, said, “We can’t accept the distortion of our history as a Bangladeshi. As a neighbouring country, India should avoid such approaches.” The movie ‘Gunday’ was made on the background of 1971. The movie termed the liberation war of Bangladesh as India- Pakistan war.
At the beginning of the movie, it has been said through a commentary that India has won the 1971 war and some 93 thousand Pakistani soldiers surrendered to the Indian army. In such a way, India has won the war and a country named Bangladesh was created.
