Student of Jahangirnagar University (JU), Abdullah Al Mamun, has been appointed as the student representative on the newly formed Media Reform Commission, established by the government to propose reforms aimed at ensuring a free, robust, and objective media landscape.
The commission, headed by Senior Journalist Kamal Ahmed, was announced on Monday by the press wing of the chief adviser. Abdullah Al Mamun’s inclusion as a student representative underscores the government’s effort to involve youth perspectives in shaping the future of journalism in the country.
Mamun, a student at JU, expressed his commitment to addressing key issues in the media sector, particularly challenges faced by aspiring journalists. He said, “The commission will work to safeguard media freedom. As a student representative, I will focus on identifying why students are hesitant to pursue journalism as a career and seek solutions to overcome these challenges.”
The commission also comprises prominent figures from academia, media, and professional organisations, including Dhaka University Professor Gitiara Nasreen, The Financial Express Editor Shamsul H Zahid, and representatives from NOAB and ATCO.
