Jatiya Party (Rowshan) has described the deteriorating law and order situation across the country is severely damaging Bangladesh’s image in the international arena. In response, the party has demanded that the army be given magistracy powers to swiftly restore law and order.

Party Secretary General Kazi Md. Mamunur Rashid made these remarks at a press conference held on Sunday morning at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU).

He said that in every part of the country, people are terrified by crimes such as murder, terrorism, extortion, rape, and land grabbing.

Citizens are living in extreme insecurity, and there is no safety for life or property anywhere. The country is heading toward a disastrous outcome.

At the same time, the party called for dismantling the current interim government and transferring power to an election-time caretaker government to hold national elections by December.

He said that to overcome this crisis, not only political parties but also the military, law enforcement agencies, intellectuals, professionals, students, and the entire nation must come together in unity.

He described the current interim government, led by Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, as “deeply indecisive and indifferent.”
Mamunur Rashid alleged that domestic and foreign evil forces are conspiring to destroy Bangladesh’s economy and political stability.

He claimed these same forces were behind the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and President Ziaur Rahman, the ousting of the Ershad government, and are now sabotaging the effectiveness of the Yunus administration.

He warned that the recently imposed 35pc U.S. tariff spells disaster for Bangladesh’s economy. He also claimed that no foreign investment has come to the country in the past 11 months.

However, when journalists pointed out that a Bangladesh Bank report shows record foreign investment in the first three months of the current year, Mamunur Rashid dismissed the information, saying, “That’s not investment; it’s remittance from expatriates.”

Calling upon Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman, he declared, “The nation is now looking to you.” Jatiya Party Presidium members Shafiqul Rahman, Khandaker Moniruzzaman, Syed Wahedul Islam, and Hafsa Sultana were also present at the press conference.
