A man named Souful Islam (45) was stabbed to death by his brother-in-law following a family dispute in Joypurhat’s Kalai upazila. The incident occurred around 9:00 AM on Monday (June 30) at Panchpaika Paschimpara village under the upazila.
The deceased, Souful Islam, was a resident of Saduria village in Shibganj upazila of Bogura district and son of the late Abul Kashem. The accused, Jewel Hossain (35), is the son of Abdul Jalil from Panchpaika Paschimpara in Kalai.
According to police and locals, Souful was called to his in-laws’ house by his father-in-law early in the morning. A quarrel broke out over a family matter, during which Jewel stabbed him with a knife under his left armpit. Souful died on the spot.
Alamgir Hossain, a cousin of the deceased, said, “Souful was called around 7:00 AM by his father-in-law. Later, at around 9:00 AM, I received a call from his phone informing me of his death. When I reached the scene, I found his body lying on the floor.”
Kalai Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Zahid Hasan confirmed the incident, saying the body was recovered and sent to Joypurhat District Hospital morgue. The accused Jewel Hossain has been arrested and legal proceedings are underway.
