Joypurhat Correspondent:
Journalists in Joypurhat formed a human chain on Saturday (August 9) demanding exemplary punishment for those involved in the killing of journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, staff reporter of Pratidin Kagoj, and the serious injury to Bangladesh Alo reporter Anwar Hossain in Gazipur.
Organized by the Joypurhat Press Club, the protest was held at the Zero Point Central Mosque premises at 12 noon, with around 100 journalists from various print, electronic, and online media participating.
Presided over by Press Club President Abu Bakar Siddique, the event was addressed by Vice President Mashrequl Alam, General Secretary Masud Rana, Joint General Secretary Shamim Qadir, and several senior journalists.
Speakers condemned the brutal killing of Tuhin in public while filming an incident and criticized the lack of intervention from bystanders. They warned that continued impunity for attacks on journalists would force the press to take to the streets. They demanded the death penalty under the speedy trial law for Tuhin’s killers, stressing that journalists’ safety is essential for the security of all citizens.
Similar protests were also held in different upazilas of Joypurhat, calling for swift justice and protection for journalists.
