Bangladesh Planning Commission Deputy Head of Socio-Economic Infrastructure Department Afroza Akhtar Chowdhury has been posted as Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Joypurhat district.
She will join as the first woman DC of Joypurhat.
This information is known from the notification signed and issued by Muhammad Ibrahim, Deputy Secretary of Field Administration-2 Branch of the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday (October 30).
The order issued in public interest will be effective immediately, the notification said. Afroza Akhtar Chowdhury was born in Munshiganj district. She passed SSC in 1994 from Bogra Government High Girls School. After passing HSC in 1996 from University of Women’s Federation College, she was admitted to BBA in Finance and Banking at Dhaka University. There she passed BBA in 2000 and MBA in 2001. After joining the administration cadre through 24th BCS, her first workplace was the Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner’s office. She joined the post of Assistant Commissioner in July 2005.
Afroza Aktar served as executive officer of the upazila from June 2012 to November 2016. She then joined the Implementation Testing and Evaluation Department as Deputy Director. From August 2022 until now, she was last working as Deputy Head of Socio-Economic Infrastructure Department of Bangladesh Planning Commission. During her working life, this officer of the administration was assigned several times as an officer on special charge in various offices.
Earlier, on August 20, the government had recalled the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of 25 districts of the country. On that day, the Ministry of Public Administration issued two notifications in this regard. In the second notification, Deputy Commissioner of Joypurhat and District Magistrate Salehin Tanveer Gazi were removed and attached as Deputy Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Then on September 9, the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification appointing 25 officers of the rank of Deputy Secretary as Deputy Commissioners and District Magistrates. There, the project director of Bangabandhu Hitech City-2 supporting infrastructure construction project. Saiduzzaman was transferred as DC of Joypurhat. The order was later suspended on September 11. Then on Wednesday (October 30) Afroza Akhtar was transferred as DC of Joypurhat. He will join as the 31st DC of this district.
