Staff Reporter:

The 19th death anniversary of Golam Rasul Mallick, a courageous freedom fighter and the visionary founder of Eastern News Agency (ENA) observed on Wednesday said a press release issued by the family.

To commemorate his enduring legacy, a Qur’an recitation (Qurankhwani) and food distribution programme will be held at his residence following Asr prayers.

Over a remarkable 60-year career in journalism, Golam Rasul Mallick interviewed 53 world leaders, including President Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Boris Yeltsin, Deng Xiaoping, Mao Zedong, Indira Gandhi, and Fidel Castro, among many others — earning global recognition as one of Bangladesh’s most accomplished media figures.

During the Bangladesh Liberation War, he launched ENA as one of the first Bengali journalist-led news agencies, amplifying the voice of a nation fighting for freedom.

He was elected Chairman of the Commonwealth Press Union (Bangladesh Wing) three times and was among the first members of the Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB).

Among his many milestones, he personally covered the moon landing live from the Kennedy Space Center, a rare distinction for a South Asian journalist.
