Senior journalist and columnist Anis Alamgir was taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office on Sunday evening for questioning.
Additional Commissioner of Police and DB chief Shafiqul Islam told journalists that Anis Alamgir was brought to the DB office to be questioned on several issues. He said the interrogation is currently ongoing and that further details will be shared once the process is completed.
According to a report by Bangla daily Prothom Alo, citing Anis Alamgir, he was picked up from a gym in the Dhanmondi area and taken to the DB office. Anis said DB officials informed him that the DB chief would speak with him.
Speaking to Prothom Alo over the phone from the DB office shortly after 8:30pm, Anis said he was taken from Dhanmondi around 7:30pm and arrived at the DB office at about 8:00pm. “I have been waiting since then, but the DB chief has not spoken to me yet,” he said.
Meanwhile, efforts by other media outlets to contact Anis Alamgir for comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to repeated phone calls.
