Four individuals, including prominent media figures Mozammel Babu, Managing Director of Ekattor TV, and Shyamal Dutta, Editor of Bhorer Kagoj, were apprehended by local residents on Sunday night while attempting to illegally cross the border into India through Dhobaura in Mymensingh.
Local sources report that the group arrived at the border in a private car and was attempting to cross into India when they were intercepted by locals. The individuals were handed over to the Dhobaura Police Station. Officer-in-Charge Chan Mia of the Dhobaura Police Station confirmed the detention.
The arrested individuals are Mozammel Haque Babu of Ekattor TV, Shyamal Dutta of Bhorer Kagoj, senior Ekattor TV reporter Mahbubur Rahman, and the private car’s driver, Selim.
This incident follows an earlier event on August 6, when Shyamal Dutta, along with his wife and daughter, was turned back from the Akhaura immigration checkpoint in Brahmanbaria while attempting to enter India.
The Dhobaura Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding this latest attempted border crossing.
