Journalist killed in Dhaka road crash

A 52-year-old journalist killed as an unidentified speeding vehicle struck his motorcycle on the Khilgaon Flyover in the capital on Sunday, underscoring yet another tragic addition to Dhaka’s long list of deadly road accidents.

The victim, Zahir Bhuiyan, a sports reporter at Daily Vorer Pata and originally from Muradnagar upazila in Cumilla, was well-known among colleagues for his dedication to journalism. He lived with his wife and two daughters in the Madhya Bashabo area.

According to Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital police outpost, the collision took place around 3:45 pm when an unidentified vehicle rammed into Zahir’s motorbike at high speed, leaving him critically injured on the flyover.

Passersby and authorities rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

This tragic incident comes at a time when Dhaka continues to witness frequent and often fatal road crashes.

In recent years, the capital has seen a worrying spike in hit-and-run cases-particularly involving motorcycles, buses, and unidentified vehicles on major flyovers and highways. Fatalities on Airport Road, Kuril Flyover, Mohakhali, Jatrabari.
