Jolly, Chitralekha, Naznin Chumki, Mou get on stage with play ‘Suchona’

In memory of the late actors Mita Chowdhury and Shahidur Rahman, a play titled ‘Suchona’ was staged at the auditorium of Kendriyo Kochi Kanchar Mela in the capital’s Segunbagicha area on Saturday evening.
The play, written by the renowned Ekushey Padak winning actor Abul Hayat, was directed by noted actor and director Rahmat Ali.
Mita Chowdhury, who once regularly performed in the play ‘Suchona,’ was honoured through this staging.
The character Rasheda, a popular writer in the play, was portrayed by noted actress Wahida Mollik Jolly. Another noted actress Chitralekha Guho played the role of famous singer Sobita, Dr Naznin Hasan Chumki took the role of the wealthy housewife Shelly, and Tahmeena Sultana Mou performed as a prominent social worker in the drama. All four characters are elderly women.
Produced by Stage One, the playwright, director, and actors extended a special invitation to the audience to watch the play for a nominal fee.
Regarding talking about acting in the play, Wahida Mollik Jolly told this correspondent, “This play was dedicated to our beloved artistes, the late Mita Chowdhury and her husband Shahidur Rahman.”
Actress Chitralekha Guho said, “We remember Mita Apa with deep respect at every moment. We have especially missed her in the past few days. We invited the audience to enjoy the play.”
Dr Naznin Chumki shared her feelings by this way, “I played the character of the wealthy housewife Shelly, a role previously performed by Mita Apa. It was quite challenging for me to bring this character to life as Mita Apa did. Nevertheless, I tried my best to honour her through my portrayal.”
Meanwhile, Tahmeena Sultana Mou said, “Suchona’ is one of the most significant plays of my stage career. The three other artistes performing with me were incredibly experienced. Participating in rehearsals with them helped me to accurately present my character. I hope our performance in the play ‘Suchona’ was well-received by the audience.”
