The district administration, army, consumer rights and BSTI, along with various departments concerned, have conducted a surveillance operation in retail markets including Rajganj in the city to control the prices of daily necessities during the holy month of Ramadan.
The joint team, led by Deputy Commissioner Amirul Kaysar, conducted the drive from 11 am to 2 pm.
During the drive, vouchers for the purchase and sale of various products including fish, meat, chicken, soybean oil and lemon, among various daily necessities, were monitored.
The deputy commissioner warned traders not to cheat consumers to earn more profits.
At the same time, BSTI tested domestic and foreign fruits and vegetables in retail markets through a mobile lab to check whether there is formalin, which is harmful to the human body.
This test program is being conducted by BSTI to ensure safe food during the whole month of Ramadan.
Deputy Commissioner Amirul Kaysar said that two teams from the district administration are working every day to control the prices of market goods in the city.
In addition, work is being done to control the market price with the initiative of each upazila administration. Deputy Director of BSTI, Cumilla, KM Hanif, Consumer Rights Cumilla Assistant Director Md. Kausar Mia, along with officials from various departments and business leaders were present.
