The students of Jagannath University (JnU) staged a hunger strike in front of the secretariat at around 4:45pm on Monday afternoon to press home their three-point demand.
The protesting students said, “We gave the authorities an hour to deliver a written commitment to meet our demands, but no letter has arrived from the ministry. As per our previously announced ultimatum, we are now staging a sit-in in front of the secretariat. We will not leave the streets until our demands are met.”
Earlier on Monday morning, they announced a “complete shutdown” at the university and also locked the main gate of the campus, the administrative building along with the buildings of different faculties.
The students carried out these programmes with a three-point demand, including the demand of handing over the project of construction of the second campus for Jagannath University to the army. They started the mass hunger strike at 8:30am on Sunday.
