JnU students seek army intervention for new campus

Md Abdur Rakib, JnU :

Students of Jagannath University (JnU) are going to protest for three points, including handing over the work of the second campus in Keraniganj to the Army.

They will start this movement from next Monday, November 4. The matter was confirmed by the students on Thursday.

The three-point demand of the students is that the corrupt project director appointed during the ousted dictatorship regime should be brought to justice and an efficient army officer should be appointed as project director (PD) within seven days.

Announcing the handover of the second campus from the Ministry of Education to the Army, giving a clear outline of the handover process and starting the work for accommodations.

Action should be taken immediately to acquire the remaining 11 acres of land for the second campus and all immoral deals made during the dictatorship should be cancelled.

In this regard, Subhan Shourov, a student of the English Department of the university, said, “We could not complete the land acquisition of the second campus even in six years, but in less time than that, the work was completed and handed over to the Comilla University through the Army.

We want immediate handover of the campus work to the Army to speed up the work and eliminate corruption.”

Another student, Tausib Mahmud Sohan, said, “The second campus project of Jagannath University has been completed for six years, but the land acquisition work has not been completed yet! Even though the government has changed, the officials who were involved in these works are still in good health.

Moreover, even after the arrival of the new VC, we have not seen any initiative from the University administration to start the work quickly.

For this reason, we feel that if the work of the 2nd campus is handed over to the Army, the work of the campus will be completed soon.

Besides, in 2016, the government announced the establishment of a new campus of Jagannath University on 200 acres of land in Keraniganj of the capital in the face of intense student agitation, but after seven years, there was no visible progress in the work.

So, the students have announced the movement to demand the handover of the work to the Army for the implementation of the second campus.
