Students of Jagannath University took to the streets in a protest rally and formed a human chain to denounce Israeli atrocities in Palestine. The rally commenced at half-past twelve in front of the central mosque on Thursday.
Meanwhile, another protest was staged at Badda in the capital on the same day. Marching through the entire campus, the rally culminated in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s office, where the students collectively announced the boycott of Israeli products as part of their protest.
Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted the grave situation in Gaza, where Israel’s actions have resulted in the deaths of nearly 35,000 people, predominantly women and children.
Recent reports of Israel’s planned invasion in Rafah, situated at Gaza’s southern border, have sparked fears of further civilian casualties. In response, the students of Jagannath University voiced strong condemnation and protest against Israeli atrocities.
Junayed Masud, a student from the Institute of Education and Research, emphasized that support for Palestine transcends religious boundaries. Drawing parallels to Bangladesh’s struggle for independence in 1971, Masud stressed the significance of solidarity in the face of injustice.
He criticized the silence of Muslim-majority countries in the wake of the ongoing violence and urged the international community, including the United Nations and Western nations, to take action against Israeli aggression. In a symbolic gesture, the students collectively pledged to boycott Israeli products.
They asserted that while direct confrontation with Israel may not be feasible, they can express their dissent through economic means. Henceforth, they declared, they will refrain from purchasing Israeli goods.
