A video featuring a Jagannath University (JnU) Chhatra League member assaulting a bus assistant has gone viral on social media, sparking outrage among students and the public.
The individual in question, Tausif Shakil, is a student from the 2018-19 Chemistry batch and has claimed to be an assistant coordinator of the student movement.
However, this claim has been refuted by multiple students and Nur Nabi, a key coordinator of the JnU unit of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
According to them, Shakil has no affiliation with their movement. “Shakil’s name is not mentioned on the 27-member coordination committee formed on July 29,” confirmed Nur Nabi.
Shakil’s name is also not mentioned on the 27-member coordination committee formed on July 29.
In this regard, Nur Nabi said that there has never been a position of assistant coordinator at JnU.
“We have already observed that those directly or indirectly involved with Chhatra League are engaging in various misconduct on campus while posing as ordinary students.
“From what I understand, Shakil, who misbehaved with the bus helper while claiming to be an assistant coordinator, has always been opposed to our movement. Their sole aim now is to create controversy and discredit the leaders of the university and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement under various disguises.”
According to sources, Shakil was directly involved with the JnU unit of the Chhatra League.
Most recently, he secured the position of Chairman of the university’s Uttaran Bus Committee by presenting himself as a Chhatra League member.
However, due to Shakil’s stance against the student movement, he was removed from the committee by the students.
