Md Saiful Islam, JKKNIU Correspondent:
Students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) have announced a complete boycott of all academic activities on Monday, 7 April, to express solidarity with the people of Gaza amid ongoing violence and humanitarian crises in the region.
The move comes as part of a global call for a strike to protest the plight of Palestinians, with the university administration also scheduling a solidarity rally on the same day.
In a statement released on Sunday, the students of JKKNIU declared their participation in the “Global Strike for Gaza,” emphasizing their unwavering support for the people of Gaza. “We, the students of Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU), stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza,” the statement read. “We refuse to stay silent while a population is being bombed, starved, and erased from Gaza. This is a moral responsibility.”
As part of the strike, no classes, laboratory sessions, examinations, or administrative activities will take place on the JKKNIU campus on 7 April. The students described the strike as a peaceful act of resistance, aimed at raising awareness about the ongoing oppression and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “This is not just a regional issue; it is a matter of human rights, dignity, and justice,” the statement added. They also urged students across the country to join the movement, stating, “Until the genocide ends, we strike,” and used the hashtags #StrikeForGaza and #StandWithGaza to amplify their message.
In a subsequent press release issued by the university’s Public Relations Office on Sunday, the JKKNIU administration announced that a solidarity rally will be held on the same day at 12:00 PM in front of the new administrative building. The university authorities have invited all teachers, students, officers, and staff to participate in the event to protest “Israel’s relentless barbaric aggression and massacre in the occupied Palestinian territory of Gaza.” The press release, signed by SM Hafizur Rahman, Additional Director of the Public Relations Office, called for collective action to demonstrate support for the people of Gaza.
