Business Report :
JERA Co., Inc., Japan’s largest power generation company, has opened a new office in Dhaka, marking a key step to strengthen collaboration with stakeholders across Bangladesh’s energy sector.
The expansion comes as Bangladesh moves toward its Vision 2041 goal of achieving developed-country status, where a resilient and reliable energy system will be essential to supporting long-term economic and social development. The Dhaka office will enable JERA to work closely with government authorities, industry partners, and local communities to promote sustainable energy development.
“Asia is central to JERA’s growth strategy, and we see opportunities across the region to support countries as they pursue economic growth and decarbonization,” said Izumi Kai, Managing Executive Officer at JERA and CEO of JERA Asia. “Our expansion into Bangladesh reflects our long-term commitment to work alongside local partners in energy transition and development.”
Takao Onuki, CEO of JERA Bangladesh, added, “Establishing a local office allows us to collaborate more effectively with policymakers and industry partners. We look forward to building strong partnerships with Bangladesh’s energy stakeholders to meet the growing demand for reliable and sustainable energy.”
JERA first entered the Bangladesh market in 2019 through its 718-megawatt Meghnaghat combined-cycle gas turbine project, developed by JERA Meghnaghat Power Limited, the country’s largest gas-based independent power producer. The company is working with local stakeholders to enhance generation efficiency, advance decarbonization planning, and contribute to LNG value chain development.
As a global leader in energy solutions, JERA is committed to supporting the growth and development of Bangladesh and Asia by delivering a clean energy supply platform combining renewable energy with low-carbon thermal power.
