Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of the main opposition party BNP, announced on Tuesday that they will stand by the agitating students demanding reform of the quota system in government jobs.
The JCD made this announcement at a press conference held at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office. JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib strongly condemned the attacks on anti-quota protesting students by the ruling
Awami League’s student wing, Chhatra League, in different parts of the country.
Rakib stated, “July 15 will remain as a black day in Bangladesh’s history. The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal is promising to carry out street struggles, always standing beside the protesters of the anti-quota agitation from today. We call on all students to come forward to build a society based on the true spirit of the Liberation War.”
The JCD president also called upon common students to struggle for equality, human dignity, and social justice.
“These can only be ensured by removing the current ‘fascist and illegal’ regime, which is the main source of the discriminatory quota system,” he added.
Rakib also announced that JCD will stage demonstrations in all universities and major educational institutions across the country on Wednesday in protest against the Prime Minister’s “derogatory” comments against the demonstrating students and the attacks on them by BCL and police in different universities.
Replying to a question, Rakib said Chhatra Dal has no organizational involvement with this movement. He emphasized that the JCD does not want to take any credit by involving itself in the common students’ movement.
JCD General Secretary Nasiruddin Nasir said the general students were cruelly and brutally attacked in different universities by the BCL.
