One of the pioneers of Iran’s new film wave was called Dariush Mehrjui. The legendary director was brutally murdered recently. Not only he but also his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar was a victim of murder.
The incident not only Iran, but the world film arena has also been shaken. Bangladesh’s popular actress Jaya Ahsan was also touched by the sadness of the famous director’s death.
Jaya revealed her own sadness by posting a picture of Darius. She wrote, “Bad news around the world.
The mind is very bad. But in the meantime, I was shocked to hear a news. Someone brutally killed Iran’s famous director Dariush Mehrjui with a knife.
He was not alone, but also killed his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar in the same way.
Who could kill him like this who made so many wonderful movies and presented Iran in front of the world with pride? How can such a man be so cruel? Can such a man have such a cruel enemy? Even at the time of death, Darius Mehrjui must have been wondering the same thing. Whoever killed him, his death is not in our hearts.”
It is noted that Dariush Mehrjui , 83, was known as cofounder of Iran’s film new wave in the early 1970s that mainly focused on realism.
He received many awards, including a Silver Hugo from the Chicago International Film Festival in 1998 and a Golden Seashell at the San Sebastián International Film Festival 1993. Mehrjui studied in the cinema program at the University of California, Los Angeles in the early 1960s.
