Veteran film actor Ilias Javed, a prominent figure from the golden era of Bangladeshi cinema, has been hospitalised following a deterioration in his health.
He was admitted to a private hospital in Uttara, Dhaka, on Wednesday afternoon.
Sony Rahman, an executive member of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association, confirmed the news yesterday.
He told media, “Javed Bhai, the legendary actor, is battling cancer and also has heart complications. He has previously suffered two heart attacks.”
Quoting Javed’s wife, Dolly Chowdhury, he also said, “The actor has been struggling with health issues for quite some time.
Yesterday, when his condition suddenly worsened, he was rushed to a private hospital in Uttara.
His wife has requested prayers from everyone for Javed Bhai.” Javed made his debut as a lead actor in 1964 with the Urdu film ‘Nayi Zindagi’.
However, his popularity began to rise after the 1966 film ‘Payel’, in which he starred opposite Shabana.
