Three suspects have been placed on a two-day police remand in connection with the murder of Yasin Gazi, a businessman from Jatrabari.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah issued the order on Monday after a hearing. The accused — Al Amin, his wife Nazma Begum, and relative Sabina Akhtar — were brought to court by Jatrabari police, who had requested a seven-day remand. Defense lawyer SM Zakir Hossain opposed the plea and sought bail, but the court granted a two-day remand instead.
The case was filed by Yasin’s wife, Sharmin Akhter, accusing Al Amin, Nazma, Sabina, and another relative, Harun, of being involved in Yasin’s death.
According to the case statement, Yasin, 30, had sold his restaurant Maer Doa in Kazla’s Chantek area to Al Amin four months ago for Tk 270,000, with Tk 10,000 still unpaid. On Sunday night, Yasin and his wife went to Al Amin’s home to collect the remaining amount. An argument broke out, during which Al Amin allegedly attacked Yasin with a blade. Yasin was severely injured and later died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Yasin, originally from Dhalirghat in Chandpur, lived in the Saddam Market area with his wife and two sons.
“They killed my husband over Tk 10,000. My sons have lost their father,” said a grieving Sharmin. “I demand justice. I want the killers to be hanged.”
Sub-Inspector Farhad Ali, the investigating officer, stated that the murder appeared to stem from a financial dispute. “We will interrogate the suspects to see if there were any deeper motives involved,” he added.
