Japan’s unicharm introduces locally made sofy sanitary pads in BD
Business Desk :
Unicharm Group, Japan’s leading feminine care brand, has launched its new menstrual napkin, “SOFY AntiBacteria”, alongside a nationwide period education initiative, entitled “Moner Kotha with Sofy”.
The product will be manufactured in Bangladesh for the first time as part of the company’s full-scale entry into the market.
The initiative is based on what the company describes as a dual commitment: introducing the locally adapted “SOFY AntiBacteria sanitary pad” and implementing a comprehensive menstrual education programme targeting one million girls across the country. The product has been designed specifically for Bangladeshi consumers and will be produced in a domestic factory to ensure stable supply, enhanced hygiene, and consistent quality.Unicharm said the launch reflects its commitment to promoting a hygienic lifestyle and supporting a society where women are not constrained by menstruation.
Building on its global experience in menstrual education, the company will roll out a programme providing information on women’s health, menstrual management, and product use. The initiative will combine digital content with in-person sessions for middle and high school students.
The campaign begins in January 2026 with online activities on SOFY’s social media platforms, including Facebook Live sessions featuring Bangladeshi gynaecologists. It will later expand into school-based sessions in Dhaka, aimed at fostering practical knowledge and hygienic habits among students.
Actress, Tanjim Saiyara Totini, has been appointed as the SOFY Brand Ambassador in Bangladesh.
Yuji Ikeda, Corporate Officer of Unicharm Corporation and Managing Director of Unicharm India Private Limited, said: “We are extremely proud to bring our best feminine care product to Bangladesh through the SOFY brand.
This launch is based on two commitments: delivering the highest quality of hygiene through our innovative, locally made SOFY AntiBacteria, and nurturing the next generation through menstrual education.”
Ashish Kumar Verma, Sales Senior Director of Unicharm India Private Limited, said: “We are delighted to introduce SOFY into the vibrant Bangladesh market with full-scale domestic production. Our distribution and wholesale partners, whose insights and networks are essential, will ensure that SOFY AntiBacteria reaches every consumer.
