Police in Oita City, Oita Prefecture, have arrested a 25-year-old unemployed woman on suspicion of attempting to kill her 5-year-old son.
Police said the woman is accused of strangling her son at around 6 p.m. on Dec 23 at her apartment, NTV reported. However, she told police that she stopped before the boy lost consciousness.
Police said the boy suffered injuries to his neck that will take about two weeks to heal, but his life is not in danger, Japan Today.
