Jamaat-e-Islami has expressed support for the Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus’s announcement regarding the 13th parliamentary election timeline, saying the nation feels “assured” by the commitment to hold polls within a clear timeframe.
In a statement issued Friday, Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman said the announcement has renewed public confidence. “The people now expect the government to ensure a free, fair, and acceptable election within the stipulated period,” he said.
In a national address on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, Chief Advisor Yunus stated that the next general election would be held any day in the first half of April 2026. He also reiterated that depending on the pace of reforms, the polls could take place as early as December 2025 or, at the latest, by June 2026.
Yunus emphasized that the timing hinges on the completion of key reforms in justice, governance, and the electoral process.
Earlier this week, Jamaat chief Shafiqur Rahman suggested that elections could be held as soon as mid-February 2026, just ahead of Ramadan, if reform efforts proceed swiftly.
He added that the interim government has a “historic opportunity” to restore democracy through the implementation of the July Charter—focused on reform, justice, and electoral fairness.
“The nation’s aspiration is clear: to return to a democratic system built on transparency and accountability,” he said at a Tuesday media briefing.
Jamaat’s statement comes amid ongoing discussions across the political spectrum about the scope and timeline of reforms necessary to pave the way for credible elections under the interim government.
