Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar has called on voters to support the upcoming referendum, saying a ‘yes’ vote will help build a society free from discrimination and corruption.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the Shahpur Union Ward representative meeting held at the Government Shahpur Madhugram College Auditorium in Dumuria Upazila of Khulna-5 constituency on Tuesday.
Parwar highlighted the July Charter, prepared jointly by political parties to reform the state system.
“This charter aims to create a governance structure that is transparent, balanced in power, free from corruption, non-discriminatory, and protective of citizens’ rights. In the upcoming referendum, we urge people to vote ‘yes’ in favor of these reforms,” he said.
He added, “‘Yes’ must prevail. Voting ‘yes’ means rejecting corruption, fascism, partisanship, and suppression of dissent, while affirming justice, voting rights, democracy, and the rule of law.”
The meeting was presided over by Khulna Dumuria Upazila Nayeb Amir Gazi Saifullah and conducted by Upazila Youth President BM Alamgir Hossain.
Special guests included Khulna District Jamaat Secretary Munshi Mizanur Rahman, Assistant Secretary Professor Mia Golam Quddus, and District Student Affairs Secretary Advocate Abu Yusuf Molla. Other attendees included Dumuria Upazila Amir Maulana Moktar Hossain, Upazila Hindu Branch President Dr. Haridas Mondal, and several local leaders.
Parwar stressed the need for a level playing field to ensure fair and impartial elections, emphasizing equal rights and opportunities for all political parties. He also called for joint efforts to address violence, terrorism, and crime across the country.
